Which certificates does a landlord legally need?

In England, most private landlords need a valid EPC, an annual gas safety record if there's gas, an EICR at least every five years, and working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. PAT testing isn't a specific legal requirement, but appliances you supply must be safe.
